As a Tarot teacher, one thing which I find fascinating is the fact that everyone has different ideas for timing. What counts as the short-term future for one reader might be another diviner’s long-term future. These subtle but important differences is one thing which can really distinguish one reader from another. . . For me, the short-term future encompasses a period of 6-12 weeks. For me, when I interpret a spread position which symbolises the near future, this is the time frame which I work with most of the time. . . I believe that the long-term future covers a period of a couple of years. I have found that my readings rarely go beyond that (but when they do, the most I read is five years). It is pretty standard for the reader to select the significator for the seeker (if they use a significator). Due to the fact that I am an Aquarius, I often get the Queen of Swords selected for me. However, i hate this lol because I cannot stand that court card. I prefer to have The Queen of Cups because this is what resonates with me. . . I am also not too keen on using Majors for significators. I am unsure why I feel this way but I think it might be due to the fact that I think that significators should always be courts. . . This week, myself and my students are looking at what our motives were for learning Tarot. . . Because I had fortune tellers in my family, I always felt a draw towards fortune telling. I became interested in divination because I felt as though the Tarot cards in my house (which were my sisters) began to call me. I had such a strong urge to handle and use them, and that’s how I became motivated to learn Tarot. I always tell folk that divination pursued me haha . . As I grew older I realised that reading had many benefits including prediction. I’ve seen a few posts in my newsfeed. Apparently, something is happening in the Tarot community and there are discussion over whether or not there are Tarot cliques, cult-like behaviour, and the downplaying of this behaviour by community ‘leaders’ and their followers. . . I’ll be honest, I’ve no idea how this happened or all started but as someone who’s Tarot site sees over one million visitors a year I felt the need to say this. . . You should always feel as though you can ask the hard questions. And keep asking those questions. Question people in authority all of the time, even your teachers. Question me. Question the people you learn Tarot from, question the creators of the websites and Youtube channels you visit, and question the authors of books you read. . . If something doesn’t seem quite right or a teacher encourages an environment of silence/badgering, then question this. Of course cliques and manipulation do exist in the Tarot community and you SHOULD be wary of anyone who uses their platform to dismiss this or sweep it under the rug. Tarot communities should be a safe place for everyone to hold discussions. . . Try to avoid anyone who encourages an air of ‘us versus them’ or who anyone who dismisses the fact that such groups do exists. Of course they exists, they exist in science groups, in self-development groups, and they exist in Tarot. The only people who would deny such behaviour are those who directly benefit from it. Protect yourself and your friends and family. If you’re writing Tarot card meanings, I always recommend doing the Swords early on because these can become emotionally difficult. Writing about painful situations can bring up a lot of shit, so it’s best to begin with the troubling cards and end with the good ones. . .
