In a Tarot card reading, the King of Pentacles in a spread can be a symbol of someone who is persistent, has patience and is hard-working. This post includes a vintage and modern fortune telling meanings of the King of Pentacles, ideal for the advanced reader or those just learning the cards. These interpretations can be used with any of the decks (Rider Waite, Marseilles etc). Cards used in this post are the Roy de Deniers from le Tarot Noir.

Sometimes, the King represents tradition and traditional people. They are the type who like to follow in their family’s footsteps. King of Pentacles characters follow the same religions, do the same jobs and have the same outlooks which their cultures would expect of them. This card may be a sign that you should appreciate the power of tradition. It can mean that you’ll make your family proud in the future.

At its core, the King of Pentacles is a card of the long-term. When he pops up in a reading, it can mean that a situation or person is going to be a stable feature in your life.

There will be times when the King of Pentacles appears in a negative reading or position of a Tarot spread. When this happens, it can mean you or someone else is being to materialistic and money focused. If this is the case, the King is a reminder to pursue happiness.

There is also a possibility that the King can represent someone who is traditional to the point of being dogmatic. They are not willing to let go of the way things were done in the past. While tradition is always a good thing, there will be times when it is not appropriate.

The King of Pentacle's Historical Meaning

The ancient interpretation for The King of Pentacles is very similar to the one given above. The card is one of success. Waite notes that The King of Pentacles can also mean that the seeker has talents in business and maths; they may achieve great things in these areas.

Also, like the Queen of Pentacles, the King can symbolise a man who has a lot of money and resources who wishes to assist the seeker in some way. The following cards will give clues to the nature of the King and his motives.

The King of Pentacles in a Love Reading

The King of Pentacles is desirable in a love reading because it can mean that you’ll meet a partner who can provide for you physically, financially and emotionally. If settling down with a family is what you desire, then this is a good card to receive. The King is likely to want marriage and anything traditional because he desires this lifestyle.

If you’re already in a relationship then the King of Pentacles can represent your partner. If your other half is ambitious it can mean that they will achieve a lot in the future and you’ll reap the benefits. In general, The King means they have feelings for you and plan on being in there for the long-term (if you want to know more about your partner's feelings, I have feelings and intentions spreads in my Love Tarot Spreads e-book).

The only time the King is not positive for a love reading, is when your partner does not have the same personality traits as the King of Pentacles. Is your lover a day dreamer? Are they all talk, no action? Do they lack drive? Are they non-traditional? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then your lover is not a King of Pentacles. Therefore, I would predict that this card warns that your current relationship will not last. However, you will meet the King of Pentacles in the future, especially if his card has landed in the outcome position of a Tarot spread.

The King of Pentacles in a Business Reading

Just like in a love Tarot reading, the King of Pentacles is positive if he appears in a business reading. His presence is a sure-fire sign of success in business and if probably up there with one of the most positive cards to receive, especially in an outcome or future position. Your business and your plans are going to be worth the blood and tears.

Sometimes, he can pop up as a negative and although this is not so common I feel I should explain why. The King is old fashioned and this can mean that he is reluctant to change or ask for outside help. Good business owners know that it is better to hire other experts than it is to do everything yourself. They also understand you have to get with the times. Therefore, if the King of Pentacles appears as a negative, blockage or challenge in a business reading (which is rare) I would advise you to seek out a pair of fresh eyes and do not be afraid to mix things up a little.

The King of Pentacles as a Yes or No
