  In a Tarot card reading, The Four of Wands in a spread can be a symbol of home and family. This post includes vintage and modern fortune telling meanings of the 4 of Wands, ideal for the advanced reader or those just learning the cards. These interpretations can be used with any of the decks (Rider Waite, Marseilles etc.) Cards used in this post are from The Laughing Eye, Weeping Eye Tarot deck.

As it symbolizes the family, the 4 of Wands also represents the home. Perhaps, you’re considering making a house move or will in the future. If you desire an uproot, the 4 of Wands is good omen. Often, it will be a family home in the cards as opposed to a ‘lads pad’ or apartment.

On a more minor level, there could be home improvements. While this may be stressful do not worry; all will end well and you will have your house just as you want it.

In general, times will be happy. Relationships, jobs and work will be stable, for a short time at least. As it predicts a comfortable outcome, 4 of Wands in a future position is desirable. If there is a particular area of you’re life which you are concerned about the 4 of Wands should put you at ease.

Although the 4 of Wands is a positive card, there will be times when it appears as a negative or a drawback. In these cases, it can mean that you’re too introverted and not willing to put yourself out there. You rarely venture out past your comfort zone and are too afraid to mingle with new people in strange place. Your need to feel like you belong to something or somewhere is also putting a damper on your creativity and independence.

The Four of Wands’ Historical Meaning

In times now past, the 4 of Wands was associated with community, networking and the countryside. If you’re interested in moving home, you should look for a place in the country (or your Tarot cards could be telling you that you’ll move there one day).

If you take the historical meaning into consideration, then the 4 of Wands can be advising you to go and mingle with your locals. Get to know your neighbors: you never know what can result from a little bit of socializing.

The Four of Wands in a Love Reading

If you are wondering what a potential partner is feeling about you, then the 4 of Wands is a good card to get; it means that they find comfort in your company and would rather have you around than not. It can also symbolize the fact that they see you as someone who has ‘long-term partner’ potential, not just a fling.

However, if the 4 of Wands appears as a negative or in a sinister looking spread, it can mean that – although your partner sees you as marriage material – they may not be ready just yet to make that commitment. Therefore, if your lover seems overly childish or difficult to pin down beware: just because they see you as wifee material doesn’t mean they’re ready to put a ring on it. If you really want to know about your lover's level of commitment and intentions, be sure to check out my Love Tarot Spreads e-book.

It is a very good sign to get a 4 of Wands in an outcome position for love readings: it can mean that you will set up a happy home with your lover. Even if all does not last between you and your current partner, the 4 of Wands is reassurance that you will one day be in a comfortable, stable relationship with someone you will live with.

Although the 4 of Wands is not a marriage card per say, it which marks romantic seriousness. The 4 of Wands can mean that you will soon set up home with your partner, which of course is a notable commitment.

The Four of Wands in a Business Reading

Even though the 4 of Wands does not deal with business, I am inclined to read it as a brilliant business card for several reasons.

Many company owners do not earn enough to take home a substantial wage from their business. Therefore, any indication that they are (new home, new car) generally means that they do not fall into this category. Therefore, I read anything in a Tarot reading related to large purchases as a plus.

Usually, the 4 of Wands comes up as a house you have bought, not one you have gotten through other means (rent, government). Any business owner knows that it take a substantial amount of money to be able to afford a home because, compared to people we do not work for themselves, we pay a bigger deposit. The 4 of Wands implies to me that your business is (or one day will) be able to afford you with a home of your own.

The Four of Wands as a Yes or No

The 4 of Wands is usually a yes for most types of questions.

The Four of Wands as a Positive

In a positive reading or spread position, the 4 of Wands predicts;

- A new home

- The purchase of property

- Relationships becoming serious

- Feeling comforted, safe and secure

- Being part of a community

The Four of Wands as a Negative

In a more negative reading or spread position, the 4 of Wands can predict;

- You’re too introverted

- You’re too attached to what you’re used to

- You don’t like to meet new people

- You don’t like to have new experiences

- To be happy, you need to feel like you belong
