Stress, Hard Work, Effort, Good Ending which is Difficult to Reach, Massive Undertaking, Sacrifices for Success
The 10 of Wands is the card of hard work. When this card makes an appearance in a Tarot reading, you can be assured that there is much work to be done.
The 10 of Wands usually pops up in outcome or future positions. If this is the case for your reading, it means that, in the future, you’re going to have to put a lot of effort into whatever you’re reading about, more than you are currently. Down the line, you’ll have to make the decision if you’re going to knuckle down and complete the challenge or throw in the towel when it gets too much. The 10 of Wands isn’t telling you what you’ll do; it only serves as a warning that things are about to get very difficult.
The 10 of Wands shows up when you have a lot on your plate. You may be struggling with juggling work, family and business obligations. You go to bed at night thinking about the mountain of things you have to accomplish the next day. Its not surprise, you’re feeling overwhelmed.
You should take better care of yourself as stress related illnesses have a way of appearing as the 10 of Wands. Although it is good to work hard be sure to practice self-care and do ‘you’ every now and then.
I often see the 10 of Wands with new parents and this is a possible interpretation if childbirth and pregnancy are indicated. It is likely that you have not taken to parenthood as easily as they previously thought you would. The sleepless nights and added responsibility could be getting to you.
Other times the 10 of Wands is associated with trying to get business plans or work projects off the ground. I often see the 10 of Wands for business people. It can feel as though you’re pushing and pushing with no end in sight.
The design of the Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck implies that there is hope to be found with the 10 of Wands. In the distance of the struggling figure we can see a nice cozy environment. To remain committed, you must remind yourself that you’re working hard for a reason. You’re pushing towards the life you want.
There will be times when the 10 of Wands appears as a positive or strength you have. If this is the case, it means that you are persistent and work demonically hard to get the things you want. Nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. You can put effort in where others fail. Therefore, have the 10 of Wands in a good position is a good sign as it means that you’ll work until you see success.
The Ten of Wands’ Historical Meaning
In 1888, Mathers lists the interpretations of ‘honor, good faith and confidence’ as meanings for the 10 of Wands and, to be honest, they seem to fit with the modern interpretation for the 10 of Wands.
If you want to achieve something as monumental as whatever the 10 of Wands represents, then you have to believe in yourself. You need the confidence to know that if you work hard, your efforts will pay off otherwise you’ll lose faith. If you take the 10 of Wands’ historical meaning into account, this Tarot card is a sign that you must have more self-assurance, put your head down, and get on with it!
The Ten of Wand’s in a Love Reading
The 10 of Wands appears in love readings when the partnership brings you nothing but stress and burdens. You may love your partner, but the 10 of Wands warns that you will have to carry the weight for them in the future. You will be the one who takes care of everything and may even have to be the main breadwinner in the household (if you’re partnership gets that far).
The 10 of Wands can come up when you feel as though you’re the only one fighting for the relationship. Usually, the 10 of Wands marks the beginning of a painful ending. If your relationship is ending (or you want to know if it will) I have written spreads for these issues in my Love Tarot Spreads e-book.
If you’re wondering what your partner’s feeling as towards you the 10 of Wands means that there are some there, but they are not overly positive. The relationship seems to be too stressful for your lover to deal with and communication with you has become burdensome. There is also the possibility that you’re too clingy and don’t give them enough space.
The Ten of Wand’s in a Business Reading
For business and career orientated readings, the 10 of Wands is a typical card to see. Business is difficult and sometimes you can feel as though you’re putting in all of this effort and not seeing much return; the energy of these feelings are embodied in the 10 of Wands.
Tarot is advising you to realistically assess your business priorities and look at where you’re wasting your time, energy and money. Have you been giving out too many freebies? Have you been posting your ads in Facebook groups to crickets? Have you surveyed your target market to see if they even want what you’re providing? It is time to set down with a pen and paper before your naive approach destroys your company.
The 10 of Wands can be a sign that you struggle with willpower and commitment. You’re never going to feel like doing something 100% of the time and the 10 of Wands is telling you that you must push through these emotions and get to work anyway. The hard work will pay off, but only if you do the grafting.
