I suspect that I frequently get asked about the King and Queen of Cups combo because diviners perform most Tarot readings for relationship readings. Because the Queen and King of Cups are of the ‘love’ suit, getting them together in a reading is significant!

Overview of the Cups Court Cards

I mainly interpret the Cups suit in Tarot to symbolize love, romance, softness, and emotion.

There are times when I would interpret the Cups card to represent empathetic and psychic energy, but I do read a lot of other cards this way which aren’t Cups.

The Cups Courts represent people in your life who are loving, caring, romantic, and sensitive. Sometimes, the Cups can be overly sensitive, immature, and needy but not always. With the above general ‘Cups’ meaning in mind, I am going to interpret the King and Queen Cups together in combination below.

Before we begin, I would like to point out that I generally interpret the meanings of the King and Queen differently depending on the type of a reading. For example, in relationship readings I always interpret the Kings and Queens to represent lovers but wouldn’t always do this with career readings; that being said, how I interpret them does change based on the mood, and feel of the rest of the reading.

The King and Queen of Cups in a General Reading

No matter who I was performing a reading for, I would always take the King and Queen of Cups together in combination in a reading to symbolize a couple who are in perfect harmony.

When you receive a King and Queen of Cups together in a general reading (reading without a specific question), this means that you and your lover are the perfect match. Single? Don’t worry as this combination predicts that you will soon have a lover come into your life which fulfills all of your needs.

If you are female, the Queen of Cups represents you with the King symbolizing your lover. If you are male and straight, the King symbolizes you and the Queen represents your lover (or future lover). Towards each other, you will be loving, attentive, and will go out of your way to make the other feel safe.

I should quickly point out that I would read Kings and Queens the same way for gay and lesbian couples. However, in general, I usually always assign the Queen to the seeker (the person getting the reading) just because concern over the future and an interest in healing and intuition are generally viewed as ‘feminine’ traits as the Queen does. Therefore, I read the person receiving the reading as the Queen, but you might read this differently.

When the King and Queen appear together in a reading, it shows that your love life is an area of support. You can seek comfort from your partner and view them as someone who is loving and safe. However, if you do not see your partner this way be warned as in this case, sometimes the King of Cups can represent someone outside of your relationship who wishes to come in and provide you with things your current lover cannot.

The King and Queen of Cups in a Love Tarot Reading

I would generally read the King and Queen of Cups in a relationship reading the same way I would interpret them in a general reading but better! If you are reading on a potential relationship, the King and Queen of Cups in combination is a very good sign. When these two cards appear together, I predict that the seeker and their partner are madly in love with each other or will be in the future.

Sometimes, the King and Queen of Cups will appear together in the same love Tarot reading as a way to reassure the seeker that everything is fine and your relationship is likely to last. Therefore, do not put too much pressure on your partner. Let the universe and the spirits work their magic!

The King and Queen of Cups in a Career Tarot Reading

Depending on where the King and Queen fall in your career or business reading, this combination can be positive or negative.

In general, a King and Queen of Cups together in a career reading means that your lover (or potential lover) is a shoulder to cry on when work gets too difficult. Emotionally, your lover (or future lover) wishes to support you.

However, be warned. Sometimes, the King and Queen of Cups will appear together in a business/career reading when your love life is a distraction from your work. You may be too focused on your relationship and do not put enough energy into other important areas of your life.

In addition to the above interpretation, the Queen and King of Cups together in a work orientated reading can be a sign that you are much more likely to support your partners in their dreams than you are to focus on your own. You are also too considerate of how much your career impacts your partners instead of thinking about how not achieving your goals affects you.

If you find yourself cancelling plans or dropping off of extra work to spend time with your lover, then it is time to take an honest look at why you are making these sacrifices.
