Top 10 Recommended Divination Books & Decks

I frequently receive inquiries about my top recommended products, probably around ten times a week. People often email me asking which decks and books I recommend. Because of this, I've decided to write this blog post to share my top Tarot product recommendations with you.

Please note that I am an Amazon affiliate, which means I earn a small commission when you purchase through my links. However, rest assured, I only recommend products that I genuinely believe in, even though there are millions of products out there. You can read more about my affiliate disclaimer here.

Firstly, I recommend my book, The Modern Oracle.

Top Recommended Divination Books

My Book

To start off, I want to recommend my own book. If you're new to divination and fortune-telling or if you're exploring a new divination system, feel free to check out my book, The Modern Oracle.

Many people have enjoyed the book, and it was even chosen as Spirit and Destiny magazine’s Book of the Month a few years ago. It has received quite a few positive reviews! Within the book, I cover various methods of divination, including Tarot, Lenormand, casting divination, palmistry, and more. I introduce readers to the concept of using divination for different aspects of life. For instance, I explain how to use Tarot for love, Lenormand for general life overviews, and different divination systems for your pets, friendships, career, and love life.

Tarot Book Recommendation

Most frequently, I get asked about Tarot books! While I didn’t learn to read Tarot through books myself, I did rely heavily on personal experience. For the first ten years of my Tarot reading journey, I primarily used a small book that came with my deck. Since I was already familiar with reading, I didn’t feel the need to buy a lot of Tarot books.

However, as I've gotten older, I've received several books as gifts from friends and authors. One of these books that caught my attention is Around the Tarot in 78 Days. I genuinely think it’s one of the more outstanding Tarot books out there.

Marcus and Tali explain the Tarot meanings exceptionally well. While I don't believe the book is very well organised—the cards aren’t in order—the explanations they provide for the cards, along with the keywords, are brilliant. Out of the few Tarot books I’ve read, I would say this one stands out as superior to 99% of them.

Symbolism Book Recommendation

This card is from the Grand Tableau Lenormand.

One of the main reasons I didn’t read a lot of Tarot books is that I was more focused on symbolism. I have a deep interest in symbolism, especially the symbolism found in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck.

Therefore, I usually recommend books on symbolism to those who want to learn Tarot reading. One book I highly recommend is Signs and Symbols. This book doesn't specifically discuss Tarot, but it does cover various signs and symbols that you'll recognise within Tarot cards. For example, it delves into the meanings behind numbers, the sun, the moon, and more.

If you want to excel at Tarot reading and remember the meanings of the cards, I suggest becoming adept at interpreting symbolism, which is why I recommend this book. It’s a great resource for enhancing your understanding of the hidden meanings within Tarot cards.

Divination History Recommendation

The next book I recommend is for those interested in the history of divination. According to mainstream science, divination has only been around for a few thousand years. However, I believe this isn't accurate. I believe divination is a practice that humans have engaged in since the dawn of humanity. If you ever study cave art, you'll see that humans have had religious thoughts for at least 40,000 years.

The book Prehistory Decoded explores how humans have been fascinated by astrology for tens of thousands of years. The insights in this book are absolutely amazing and phenomenal, and I highly recommend it. For instance, the book discusses how various cave artworks from tens of thousands of years ago represent events such as asteroid strikes originating from the constellation Taurus and their impact on humans. It also covers how structures like Göbekli Tepe were built with astrology in mind and how Scorpio has been understood as Scorpio since the construction of Göbekli Tepe over 12,000 years ago.

If you're interested in early divination, astrology, and its connection to prehistory, I strongly recommend this book. It's a fascinating exploration of how ancient humans viewed the cosmos and its influence on their lives.

Beginners Lenormand Book Recommendation

This Lenormand deck is the Pixie’s Astounding Oracle deck. You can grab a copy here.

Next, I want to recommend a fantastic Lenormand book. Erika Robinson’s Lenormand book, The Language of Lenormand, is a must-read, especially for beginners. If you’re just getting started with Lenormand and are looking for a straightforward guide that explains how to actually read the cards, then Erika's book is perfect for you.

The main issue I have with many other Lenormand books on the market is that they often provide too much unnecessary (and not very useful) detail while claiming to be beginner-friendly. Erika does not do this - she gives you practical tools for mastering the cards. You should be able to start reading Lenormand within a day or so.

Erika's book is truly excellent. She has a sharp intellect and a remarkable background that shines through in her writing. I highly recommend checking out her book and following her work if you’re eager to learn Lenormand.

Advanced Lenormand Book RECOMMENDATION

If you're already familiar with reading Lenormand cards and want to delve deeper into the history, particularly its connection to playing cards, you should definitely check out Caitlín Matthews' book. Caitlín has an exceptional understanding of the history of Lenormand and its ties to other divination systems, such as cartomancy.

What sets Caitlín’s book apart is her expertise in explaining how Lenormand cards interact with each other. She provides insightful explanations on how the cards combine, especially when performing readings with strings of more than two cards. Her examples throughout the book are incredibly helpful for those looking to enhance their card-reading skills.

If you’re eager to expand your knowledge of Lenormand's historical roots and improve your reading techniques, I highly recommend Caitlín Matthews' book. It’s a valuable resource for anyone interested in advanced Lenormand practices.

Tarot Deck Recommendation

For a Tarot deck, I recommend this one here.

My first card deck recommendation is the Rider-Waite-Smith Centennial Tarot Deck. This is the deck I currently use myself, and you'll find it featured throughout this blog and website.

One of the reasons I recommend this deck is because I believe the Golden Dawn and Arthur Edward Waite did an excellent job selecting symbolism that is truly relevant to the meanings of the Tarot cards. There's a reason why the Rider-Waite-Smith is the most popular Tarot deck, and I think that reason lies in its balance of detail. The symbolism is intricate but not so detailed that it becomes overwhelming or nonsensical.

This particular version, the Centennial Edition, has a unique charm. It differs slightly from other versions of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, with more muted colors and thinner lines, which I find more aesthetically pleasing. The artwork is beautiful, and I prefer this edition over others for its subtle elegance.

You can find it here.

Recommended Lenormand Deck One

I have two recommendations for Lenormand decks. First, I highly recommend the Pixie’s Astounding Lenormand Deck. I absolutely love this deck. It features artwork by Pamela Colman Smith, who was the artist behind the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck. This connection gives the deck a familiar feel for those already acquainted with her work. While there are one or two cards that I find a bit too detailed or complicated, overall, I think this deck excels among modern Lenormand decks. It depicts the cards’ meanings effectively without being overly busy.

If you’re looking for a Lenormand deck that combines classic artistry with clear symbolism, I highly recommend Pixie’s Astounding Lenormand Deck. You can find it here.

Recommended Lenormand Deck Two

When it comes to reading Lenormand, I usually recommend decks based on classic Lenormand artwork. I find that older decks make it easier to identify the images on the cards, and it's simpler to discern their meanings. Additionally, these decks don’t include extra cards that might confuse the reader.

For an oracle card deck, I recommend the Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck.

One deck I highly recommend, especially for beginners, is the Grand Tableau Lenormand. This deck is rooted in historical Lenormand meanings, which makes it easy to read and straightforward. Although it may not be as visually stunning as something like Pixie’s Astounding Lenormand, it is a fantastic deck for beginners to learn from. Its simplicity and adherence to classic interpretations make it an ideal choice for those new to Lenormand readings.

If you’re starting out with Lenormand and want a deck that provides clear, traditional imagery, I highly recommend the Grand Tableau Lenormand. You can find it here.

Oracle Card Deck Recommendation

Finally, I want to recommend an oracle card deck. I don’t read oracle cards very often, but when I do, I always choose The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit Deck. This deck is simply amazing. I love the artwork, the messaging behind the animals, and the symbolism they convey.

On top of that, my husband recently gifted me the latest edition of this deck. I had it when I was younger, but unfortunately lost it while moving from the UK to Australia. For my birthday this year, my husband surprised me with a new deck, and I am so grateful to have it back in my collection.

If you’re interested in an oracle deck that features stunning art and profound animal symbolism, I highly recommend The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit Deck.

You can get it here.
